Rancher Roundtable To Offer Support and Strategies for Meagher County Producers
As winter settles over the region, ranchers remain hard at work, striving to produce the highest-quality beef despite the dropping temperatures. The cold, relentless as it may be, never grants a day off to these dedicated producers. To support their efforts, the local MSU Extension office offers a welcome respite—an opportunity to step out of the chill and into a warm, productive space filled with fresh strategies and insights tailored for the ranchers of Meagher County.
Recognizing the challenges ranchers face and the ever-evolving nature of the agricultural industry, the MSU Extension - Meagher County is hosting its annual Rancher Roundtable on Tuesday, December 12th. This event offers local producers an invaluable opportunity to learn, connect, and gain practical knowledge to improve their operations. The Rancher Roundtable will be held at the White Sulphur Springs Senior Citizen Center from 1 PM to 4 PM. Featuring three expert speakers, this year’s event will focus on critical topics that address the intersection of nutrition, technology, and statewide ranching initiatives.
Hannah Speer, Assistant Professor of Animal Science, will discuss the relationship between nutrition and reproduction in beef cattle, providing insights into how managing nutritional strategies can enhance herd productivity and fertility. Lee Schmelzer, MSU Extension Associate Specialist, will explore tools and technologies that can help Montana ranchers and farmers adapt to extreme weather challenges, a growing concern in today’s changing climate. Finally, Rose Malisani, Cascade County MSU Extension Agent, will present on the Montana Cattle Committee, covering important updates and resources available to producers in the state.
Educational opportunities like the Rancher Roundtable are vital for ranchers in rural communities, as new research and technology continually shape best practices in the industry. Events like these provide producers with the latest information, ensuring they can make informed decisions to optimize herd health, productivity, and sustainability. Additionally, the Roundtable fosters community connections by bringing together local ranchers to share experiences, challenges, and ideas, creating a supportive environment for learning and collaboration.
