A Wild West Celebration
Winners of the 2024 Scarecrow Contest Announced
With the end of October nearing and fall arriving in White Sulphur Springs, the community has concluded the 2024 Scarecrow Contest, a longstanding tradition co-sponsored by the Bank of the Rockies and Black Butte Copper. This year’s theme, “The Wild West,” inspired a diverse range of creative entries from local residents, businesses, and youth groups, highlighting the community's engagement and spirit.
The judging panel faced a challenging decision due to the high quality and creativity of the submissions, ultimately selecting some of the most unique scarecrows as winners for this year’s contest. The winners are as follows: Best Use of Theme was awarded to Rooney’s; Best Youth Group went to Springdale Colony Students; Best Overall was presented to The Garden Shop; Most Likely to Scare was earned by Mountain View Medical Hospital; and Funniest went to Vocal Credit Union. Each winner displayed a unique interpretation of the Wild West theme, demonstrating creativity and effort that resonated with both the judges and the community.
Honorable mentions were awarded to all participants, including Girl Scout Troop 3185, Meagher County Courthouse, Jawbone, Bar 47, The Parberry, 2 Basset Brewery, Molly Deems, Cameron Lowe, Matt & Kay Lowe, Dan & Jeanie Heyder, WSS FFA, Travis and Blaine Yunk, Forest Service, and Montana Roadhouse. The Scarecrow Contest transformed Main Street into a vibrant display of autumn creativity, with scarecrows prominently featured outside local businesses and on the Bank of the Rockies’ lawn. Each category winner will receive a $100 prize, along with recognition for their contributions to this community event.
The contest reflects the spirit of unity and creativity within White Sulphur Springs as residents prepare for the colder months ahead. The collaboration between the Bank of the Rockies and Black Butte Copper in co-sponsorship showcases the camaraderie and friendly atmosphere of the local economy, ultimately contributing to a close-knit social fabric in the area. Their continued support of this beloved event enhances the region’s seasonal celebrations and fosters a strong sense of community among county residents, ensuring that the Scarecrow Contest remains a highlight of the autumn festivities for years to come.
