Hornets Prevail in Senior Night Victory
Yet another win for the local volleyball team.
As the Lady Hornet’s volleyball season approaches district games quickly, the school honored the senior players of the volleyball team on Tuesday night. Kendra Manger, Cadie Larson, and Angelia McDanel were all recognized along side their parents with a heartwarming dialogue of their future plans, career highlights, and thank you statements to their teammates, friends, family, and coaches. The Lady Hornets had a sentimental night, but did not let it stop them from performing to the best of their ability in the weekday game. The ladies were able to pull off a win after an exhilarating back-and-forth five match game. The Hornets came out of the gate with a strong 25-22 win in the first match against the Twin Bridges’ Falcons. The Lady Hornets seemingly lost their momentum in the second match and lost 20-25. However, the volleyball team was able to put the loss aside to come back and win the third match with a sizable win of 25-18. In the same way the Hornets fought, the Twin Bridges’ players showed out to best the Hornets 18-25 in the fourth match. With the score neck and neck, the Lady Hornets put on a show of true teamwork and grit to win the fifth and final match 15-8. The player statistics of the game breakdown as follows: Kills: -Nat Fisher put on a show with the large number of 14 kills. -Jules Feddes followed in suite with an impressive 11 kills. -Kendra Manger added in 8 kills in total to the tally. Coach Marteen Taylor gave insight on the Lady Hornet’s impressive win, saying, “Twin is a super athletic bunch of girls and we had to work extremely hard to pull off this win. Their defense picked up everything, but our girls don't give up. Our determination paid off and with a change of momentum in the 5th set, we were able to come away with the win. Proud of how these girls don't let a point deficit get them down mentally, and continue to fight throughout each set no matter the score.” This victory for the Lady Hornets is even more fulfilling for the team after a tough loss to the Twin Bridges’ Falcons at the beginning of the volleyball season. With an exhilarating senior night, full of sentimental moments and an overall rowdy crowd (including the football team decked out in their best cowboy attire), the Lady Hornets showed yet again their ability to shine on the court and within the district. The Lady Hornets will compete against the Sheridan Panthers this Wednesday at home in another weekday game.
