Construction on the new Mountainview Medical Center facility is officially back on track following the award of $29,750,000 in direct loans from the USDA’s Community Facilities Loan and Loan Guarantees Program. The funding, finalized on October 21, 2024, was announced in a letter addressed to Board President William Galt.

The funds will be used to build a state-of-the-art replacement hospital and to purchase equipment, furniture, and fixtures for the new facility. The loan package includes three components: $9.92 million, $9.88 million, and $9.95 million, all with a 4% interest rate.

The journey to secure this funding has been a challenging one. Although the hospital initially broke ground on September 23, 2023, construction came to a halt when earlier funding plans fell through. A bond package launched last fall did not sell in its entirety, leaving the project underfunded. Rising interest rates on USDA loans, which peaked at 9% last summer, further complicated the situation, forcing the hospital to reassess its financial strategy.

In response, Mountainview Medical Center pursued a blended funding approach involving USDA loans and bonds. As of this October, the medical center successfully re-engaged with the USDA and secured the necessary funds after several months of careful planning and discussion.

Construction on the new facility, which will span 46,000 square feet, will resume as the weather permits. Located across from the Meagher County Rodeo Grounds, the larger facility will provide expanded services and improved amenities for the community. Highlights include a surgical suite, an expanded physical therapy space, and a clinic that will grow from six to fourteen rooms. These upgrades will enable the hospital to host more visiting specialists, enhancing the rural area’s access to high-quality care. 

While the original timeline projected a potential delay until Spring 2025, the approval of funding in October allows construction to move forward without significant disruption as long as the weather permits. 


The approval of this funding is a significant step forward for Mountainview Medical Center and the residents of Meagher County. The new facility promises to address the limitations of the current building by providing enhanced healthcare infrastructure, modern equipment, and expanded services designed to meet the needs of a growing population. With construction now underway, this project represents a long-term investment in the health and well-being of the community. 

While challenges, such as weather, remain as the facility moves closer to completion, the commitment of the hospital's leadership and staff to seeing this project through demonstrates their dedication to improving local healthcare access and outcomes. Once completed, the new Mountainview Medical Center is expected to serve as a critical resource for the region, ensuring sustainable and high-quality healthcare for future generations.
